Business studies
Business is examined on a case study. Knowing the theory is only half of it.
IGCSE Business, AS and A-Level Business, IB Business Management at Higher and Standard Level, the Canadian senior business elective and SABIS Business. The mentors sat these papers a few years ago. Lessons in your home in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, or online in any emirate.

What makes the difference
- 01
The case study is the exam
Marks go to answers rooted in the firm in front of the student: its size, its market, its numbers. A perfectly correct textbook answer that could have been written about any company scores in the middle. Applying theory to the given case is a habit, and it is taught fastest one to one.
- 02
Judgement is what the top band pays for
Recommending a course of action, then saying what it depends on and what could go wrong, is the difference between a competent answer and a strong one. Most students stop one step early because nobody has shown them what the last step looks like.
- 03
Finance is the part students avoid
Break-even, cash flow, ratios and investment appraisal put off students who chose business to avoid maths. They are also the most predictable marks on the paper, because the calculations repeat every year and can be drilled.
Inside the subject
The four areas every business syllabus examines
Case-study technique
Reading the extract properly, pulling out the evidence that will earn marks, and writing every answer about that firm rather than about business in general. This alone moves grades more than extra content does.
Finance and accounts
Break-even, cash-flow forecasts, ratio analysis and investment appraisal. The calculations repeat year after year, which makes them among the most reliably winnable marks on the paper.
Marketing and operations
The marketing mix, market research, quality, capacity and supply chains, taught through the kind of firm a case study actually describes rather than through a definition list.
People and strategy
Motivation, organisational structure, leadership and the strategic questions that carry the longest answers and the most evaluation marks.
Boards name these differently but examine the same four. A mentor finds the weak area and teaches it against your child's own specification and past papers.
Across the curricula
Business on the syllabuses Durusi teaches
IGCSE Business
Cambridge, Edexcel and Oxford AQA. Reading a case study quickly, the definitions the scheme actually pays for, and the judgement marks at the top of the paper that most candidates never reach.
A-LevelAS and A-Level Business
Written answers built to the assessment objectives: application to the firm in the extract, analysis in a chain, and the judgement that carries the last band of marks. Worked from the exact specification a school teaches.
IBIB Business Management, HL and SL
The full course at either level, with the Internal Assessment planned backwards from its deadline rather than written in the final fortnight.
CanadianSenior elective business
The Grade 11 and 12 business option, built course by course and matched to the province your school follows.
SABISSABIS Business, every Level
Business on the SABIS pattern, the weekly AMS test and then the periodic exams, taught by mentors raised in that system.

Sessions work around school and the mock season. A progress note follows each one. If the mentor is not the right fit, the rematch is free.
FAQ
Business studies tutoring in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, answered
- 01
How much does a business studies tutor cost?
Our rate card is built on school level, not on subject choice. High school runs at AED 180 an hour on Commitment or AED 200 on Flexible, middle school at AED 160 or AED 180, and both figures include VAT at 5%. A lesson at your home is AED 30 on top. The pricing page lists every level.
- 02
Which business courses do you cover?
IGCSE Business, AS and A-Level Business, IB Business Management at HL and SL, the Canadian senior elective and SABIS Business at every Level. All of them are named on our services page.
- 03
Is there an AP business course?
No. The Advanced Placement programme does not run a business studies course, which surprises a lot of families moving from a British school to an American one. Students who want this area usually take AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics, and we teach both on the economics page.
- 04
Should my child take business studies or economics?
They are genuinely different exams. Business is about running one firm and is examined through case studies, finance and decisions. Economics is about markets and whole economies and is examined through diagrams and argument. If a child enjoys the numbers and the judgement, business tends to suit; if they enjoy the theory and the debate, economics does. Many take both.
- 05
Do you help with the IB Internal Assessment?
Yes, with choosing the organisation, planning, structure, feedback and redrafting, worked backwards from the deadline. Mentors coach the student's own work; they do not write anything that will be submitted as the student's own.
- 06
Are lessons online or in person?
Both. We teach in person in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and online anywhere in the country. Case-study work suits online lessons, because the extract and the answer sit side by side on one shared screen.
