British curriculum

IGCSE and A-Level are exams. The curriculum they sit inside is British.

The British curriculum is the school system that IGCSE, O Level and A-Level are sat inside, and it is the system most families in Dubai and Abu Dhabi follow. Mentors who sat those papers a few years ago teach it across Cambridge, Edexcel and Oxford AQA, online anywhere in the UAE or in person in both cities.

Why it works

What makes the difference

  • 01

    One system, three exam boards

A British school in the UAE follows one system but picks its own exam board within it, and Cambridge, Edexcel and Oxford AQA set different papers for a subject with the same name. So the first thing we ask is which board the school enters for, and every lesson after that runs on that board's own past papers and official mark schemes. Revising on another board's questions is a quiet way to lose a grade.

  • 02

The years before the exam years still count

By the time a student reaches Year 10, the grade is already being shaped by what was and was not learned in Year 8. Help that starts early is cheaper and calmer than a rescue in the spring of Year 11, and it is why our rates are set by school level rather than by exam.

  • 03

Mentors who sat the same specifications

Every mentor is a top university student or a recent graduate, at AUS, AUD, CUD, NYUAD and other universities, and each one sat the papers they now teach only a few years ago. That counts for more on a British specification than on most, because so many marks turn on how an answer is written rather than on whether the content is known.

Subjects

What we teach inside the British curriculum

Mathematics and Further Mathematics

IGCSE and O Level Mathematics at Core and Extended, then AS and A-Level Mathematics, with Further Mathematics carried as the separate qualification it really is. The tier of entry at IGCSE is a genuine decision, and it is best settled on a timed past paper rather than on how a term has felt.

Everything above is named on our services page under the British curriculum: the IGCSE and O Level subject list, the AS list of Mathematics, the three sciences, English, Business, Economics and Computer Science, and A-Level carrying every AS subject through plus Further Mathematics. Arabic, French and Spanish are named at IGCSE only. If your child needs a British subject that is not on that list, ask us anyway. With 150+ mentors we may well cover it, and if we do not we will say so plainly rather than take the booking.

How it works

From your first message to the first lesson

  1. 01

Tell us the board and the year

Send the exam board, the year group and the subjects on WhatsApp or through the contact form. If you are not sure which board the school uses, say so, and we work it out from the specification.

  2. 02

    Meet the mentor we match

We match by hand, usually within 48 hours, to a mentor who took that subject on that board. If the fit is wrong we rematch at no cost and at the same rate.

  3. 03

A note home after every lesson

Lessons are scheduled around school weeks and mock weeks, and a short note reaches you after each one saying what was covered and what comes next.

FAQ

British curriculum tutoring in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, answered

  • 01

How much does a British curriculum mentor cost?

The rate follows the school level, never the subject and never the board. Primary is AED 140 an hour on the Commitment plan and AED 160 on Flexible, middle school AED 160 or AED 180, and the IGCSE and A-Level years AED 180 or AED 200. VAT at 5% is already inside every figure, and a lesson at your home adds AED 30. The whole table is on our pricing page.

  • 02

Is IGCSE a curriculum or an exam?

An exam. So is A-Level. The British curriculum is the school system they are sat inside, and it also covers the years before any exam is taken. Families often say IGCSE when they mean the whole British system, which is why this page and the IGCSE page are separate.

  • 03

Which exam boards do you cover?

Cambridge, Edexcel and Oxford AQA, the three named on our services page. A mentor is matched to your child's board, and every past paper and mark scheme used in a lesson comes from that board.

  • 04

Do you teach the years before IGCSE?

Yes, and the primary and middle school rates on the pricing page are for exactly those years. Our services page names the British subject list from IGCSE upwards, so for a younger year tell us the subject when you get in touch and we will say plainly whether we cover it.

  • 05

Are lessons online or in person?

Both. Mentors travel to homes across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and lessons run online anywhere in the UAE. Every published rate is the online rate, and an in-person lesson adds AED 30.

  • 06

    How quickly can lessons start?

Usually within days. Tell us the board, the year and the subject, and we match a mentor and arrange the first lesson, often in the same week. If a mock or an exam series is close, say so and we put that match first.
