The schools here print the board under every course
Repton Abu Dhabi puts an exam board line under each subject in its sixth form options booklet, mostly Pearson Edexcel with Oxford AQA on a handful. Brighton College Abu Dhabi's fee list runs subject by subject: Biology with Pearson, Accounting with Cambridge, Drama with AQA. The British School Al Khubairat does the same. That is a gift for planning, because the specification is knowable before the first lesson rather than three weeks in.

An Outstanding rating does not mean an outstanding year for your child
Every private school in the emirate is inspected by the Department of Education and Knowledge and rated Outstanding, Very Good, Good or Acceptable. That rating describes a whole school across all its years. It says nothing about whether the set your child sits in is being stretched, and a strong school can carry a weak year group in one subject for a long time without the rating moving. Parents here read the rating and relax. We read the last three reports and the child's actual marks.

You will have to ask the school, and it is worth asking early
Dubai families can look their school calendar up online. In the capital it arrives as a PDF in a parent email in August and is rarely seen again. That matters more than it sounds: without it, revision gets planned against a guessed term end and lands a fortnight late. The years nobody examines are the years that decide it
Nothing is externally marked until Year 11. A child can move from the early years to Year 9 in a strong capital school with a quiet gap in their written English or their algebra, and no external test will ever name it. It appears in a Year 10 mock and gets described as a sudden drop. It was not sudden, it was simply never measured. Those middle years are the cheapest place to fix anything, and the least tutored.

Year 9 is the fork, and in this city it forks further
Option choices at fourteen decide which A-Levels are open at seventeen. In Abu Dhabi they can also decide whether your child finishes on A-Levels at all, because several British schools here move to the IB Diploma for the last two years. That is a different qualification with different demands, chosen by a fourteen-year-old filling in a form. How much does a British curriculum tutor cost in Abu Dhabi?
Price is set by the year your child is in, not the board or the school. AED 140 an hour up to Year 5, AED 160 through Years 6 to 9, and AED 180 from Year 10, on the Commitment rate. Flexible costs AED 20 more per hour. All figures already carry 5% VAT, and a lesson at home adds AED 30. Everything is on the pricing page.

Which boards do schools in the capital enter students for?
Pearson Edexcel most often, with Oxford AQA and Cambridge International alongside it. The useful thing about the capital is that schools tend to publish the board against each course in their own options booklets and fee lists, so it can be established before the first lesson rather than three weeks in. Send us whichever document your school gave you.

What does the regulator here mean for a family buying lessons?
Schools in the emirate answer to the Department of Education and Knowledge, which inspects them through Irtiqa'a and rates them Outstanding, Very Good, Good or Acceptable. ADEK's Professional Code of Ethics also requires school staff to hold a private teacher work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation before tutoring outside school hours, and forbids a teacher from tutoring a child enrolled at their own school. Worth knowing before anyone arranges quiet lessons with someone from the staffroom.

Do you teach the years before IGCSE?
Yes, from Year 1. Those years carry no public exam, which is why a weakness in them tends to surface for the first time in a Year 10 mock. The Years 1 to 9 page sets that stage out separately.

Can you plan lessons around my child's mock weeks?
Yes. Forward the calendar the school emailed you and we work backwards from it. There is no public source for this in the emirate, so that PDF is the only reliable version and it is worth keeping somewhere you can find it.

Do you teach at home on the islands?
Yes, and inland too, at AED 30 more per lesson. Online covers the rest of the UAE. The real constraint in this city is never how far away a mentor lives, it is which crossing sits between them and your door at five o'clock, so we match on that before anything else.
