Not every British school here ends on A-Level
This is the first thing we check, and most families have never been asked it. JESS Arabian Ranches and Wellington International School in Al Sufouh both move to the IB Diploma after Year 11. A child at either one is on a British curriculum until sixteen and an international one after it, and the subjects picked in Year 9 should be chosen knowing that. If your school does carry on to A-Level, the choice is a different one entirely.

A specification is chosen for your child long before they meet it
By the time a Year 10 opens a past paper the board has been fixed for months, usually in a departmental decision nobody told the parents about. In this city the same subject can run on a different specification in two schools a mile apart, and occasionally in two sets inside one school. We ask for the code on the first message, because revising the wrong board is revision thrown away and it is the single most common waste we see.

The regulator here publishes what you need to plan with
Every private school in Dubai is inspected by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which puts each school's rating and its own calendar on a public profile. Term ends, holiday weeks and mock windows are knowable months in advance. That is unusual, and it means a revision plan here can be built from real dates rather than a generic school year.

The years nobody examines are the years that decide it
Nothing in the British system is externally marked until Year 11, so a child can travel from Year 1 to Year 9 in a good Dubai school with a quiet hole in their number work and no test will ever say so. It surfaces in a Year 10 mock, at the worst possible moment, and gets called a sudden drop. It is not sudden. We teach those middle years precisely so the hole is found while there is still time to fill it cheaply.

Year 9 is the fork, and most families meet it unprepared
Option choices at fourteen decide which A-Levels are open at seventeen, and in Dubai they also decide something larger: whether your child stays in the British system at all. Some schools here move to the IB Diploma after Year 11, so the subjects picked in Year 9 are feeding a different qualification entirely. A term of conversation before that form goes back is worth more than a year of tutoring after it. We teach in person across the city and online everywhere else in the UAE.

How much does a British curriculum tutor cost in Dubai?
The rate follows the school year, not the board. Years 1 to 5 are AED 140 an hour, Years 6 to 9 are AED 160, and Year 10 upward is AED 180, all on the Commitment rate; Flexible is AED 20 more. VAT at 5% is included and a lesson at your home adds AED 30. The full breakdown is on one page.

Which exam boards do Dubai schools use?
All three that we teach, and a Dubai school will often run more than one across its departments. What matters is not the list, it is the code beside your child's subject on their own timetable. Ask the school for it and send it to us before the first lesson.

Does every British school in Dubai go through to A-Level?
No, and this is the question worth asking early. JESS Arabian Ranches and Wellington International School in Al Sufouh both move to the IB Diploma after Year 11. If your school is one of those, the sixth form your child is heading for is not a British one, and the subject choices in Year 9 should be made with that in mind.

Do you teach the years before IGCSE?
Yes, from Year 1. Those years have no public exam, which is exactly why the gaps in them go unnoticed until a Year 10 mock finds them. The Years 1 to 9 page covers that stage on its own.

How do you plan around my child's school calendar?
Dubai makes this unusually easy. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority publishes each private school's own calendar and inspection rating on its school profile, so term ends, holiday weeks and the summer date are all knowable months ahead. Send us your school and the plan is built backwards from its published dates.

Are lessons online or in person?
Either. A mentor comes to your home across Dubai for AED 30 more per lesson, and online reaches the rest of the UAE. Most families here run both: in person at the weekend, online midweek when nobody wants to lose an hour to Sheikh Zayed Road.
