The app, and your data
What the Durusi mobile app collects from parents, students and tutors, why it collects it, and the rights you have over it. We never sell your data.
We do not sell your personal data. Questions or requests about your data go to mn@durusi.com, and you can edit much of your information directly in the app.
Email mn@durusi.comDurusi connects families with tutors in the UAE. This policy explains, in plain language, what personal information we collect, why, and your rights over it. By using Durusi you agree to this policy.
1. Who we are
Durusi (FZC), a UAE-registered tutoring business (licence 4382, TRN 105044055900003) (“we”, “us”), operates the Durusi mobile app. If you have any questions about your data, contact us at mn@durusi.com.
2. Information we collect
- Tutors: name, date of birth, nationality, gender, phone and WhatsApp numbers, address, mode of transport, education and exam history, the subjects you teach, academic transcripts and certificates, your MOHRE teaching permit if you teach at a school, a profile photo which is shown to families in the app, a signed agreement, and short video answers you record during onboarding. To pay you, we collect and store your bank account name and IBAN: Durusi pays tutors by bank transfer directly, so those details are held by us and are visible only to you and the Durusi admin team. If you claim a Durusi uniform, we also collect your uniform size and a shipping address, used only to prepare and deliver your uniform, and the time you agreed to wear it during lessons.
- Parents: name, email, phone and WhatsApp numbers, and nationality. When you pay, our payment provider Stripe processes the card and we keep only the card brand, its last four digits and its expiry so you can recognise it. Durusi never sees or stores your full card number.
- Children/Students (added by a parent): name, date of birth, school, grade, curriculum, subjects, exam targets, any medical or learning conditions and notes you choose to provide, and a login username and PIN. Photos and files of schoolwork or exam material can be added for a lesson, either by the parent when booking or by the child in their own app, so the tutor can prepare.
- Everyone: account email and password, lessons and bookings, messages and reviews, device push-notification tokens, and basic usage needed to run the service.
- Location, for home visits only. When a parent sets a child’s home we store the address and the exact map point they pin, so a tutor can find them. When a tutor is travelling to a home lesson and taps “I’m on my way”, we collect their device location until the lesson ends, so the parent and child can see them approaching and know when they have arrived. The tutor’s app asks for “Always” location permission for this, and sharing only ever runs for a booked lesson. We keep only the tutor’s current position during that journey, never a history of where they have been, and it is deleted when the lesson ends. Online lessons collect no location at all. A parent who does not want their home stored can book online lessons only.
3. How we use your information
We use it to: create and run your account; match families with suitable, vetted tutors; schedule, confirm and manage lessons; let admins review and approve tutor applications; send notifications about your lessons; handle safety/emergency alerts; and keep the service secure. We do not sell your personal data.
4. Children’s data and parental consent
Children’s accounts are created only by a parent or legal guardian. By adding a child, you confirm you are their parent or guardian and consent to Durusi processing their information for the purpose of arranging and managing tutoring. You can review, correct, or delete your child’s information at any time from the app, or by contacting us.
5. Video and document recordings
Tutors record short video answers and upload academic documents (transcripts and certificates) as part of applying. We ask for your consent before recording, and we record the time you consented. These files are used only to assess and verify tutor applications and are stored privately (see below). You can ask us to delete them.
6. How we store and protect your data
Your data is held in our managed cloud database and private file storage (provided by Supabase). Documents and videos sit in a private storage area that is not publicly accessible. Access is restricted, and links to sensitive files are short-lived. Please note: our servers may be located outside the UAE, which means your data may be processed and stored abroad with appropriate safeguards.
7. Who can see your information
Durusi administrators can view account and application data to operate the platform. A tutor can see the limited information needed to teach a child they are matched with (e.g. name, subjects, relevant notes). Parents see their own children and the tutors involved in their lessons. We do not share your data with third parties for their own marketing.
8. Third-party services
We rely on a small number of providers to run the app: Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage), Expo (push notifications), Anthropic (the AI that helps check tutor application documents, see section 13), Stripe (card payments), Google (map routes and arrival times while a tutor is travelling to a lesson, which means Google receives the tutor’s position and the home address the lesson is heading to, and address search when you set your home location, which sends the address you type to Google), Resend (sending our emails, which means it receives your name and email address), and Sentry (crash and error reports from the app, so we can find and fix faults, which include your account id and email address and which screen the fault happened on). They process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy terms.
9. How long we keep your data
We keep your data while your account is active and for as long as needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations. If a tutor application is rejected, we aim to delete the applicant’s uploaded documents and videos within a reasonable period. You can delete your account at any time: your personal details, uploads, and chats are deleted, and any unused hours you paid for are refunded under the cancellation policy. Records of payments, lessons, and tutor payouts are kept for as long as UAE tax and accounting law requires, separated from your name and contact details.
10. Your rights
You can ask to: see the personal data we hold about you; correct anything wrong; delete your account and data; or withdraw consent. You can edit much of your information directly in the app, or contact us at mn@durusi.com and we will help.
11. Security and incidents
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, but if a data breach affecting your information occurs, we will act promptly and notify you and the relevant authorities where required.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Durusi grows. We will update the date at the top and, for important changes, let you know in the app.
13. How we use AI (artificial intelligence)
To help us review tutor applications quickly and consistently, Durusi uses AI (the Claude model from Anthropic) to check that an uploaded document is the right type for its slot and appears to belong to the applicant, and to help recognise a school you type in. For each check, only the relevant document or text is sent securely to the AI provider; it is not used to train their models. AI only assists our team, it never makes the final decision. A human administrator reviews and decides every tutor approval. We do not use AI to profile parents or students.
