The average starts in Grade 9 and never resets
This is the single thing British-schooled parents underestimate when they move their child into an American school in Dubai. There is no final exam that can rescue a bad year. A weak first semester of Grade 9 sits in the cumulative average through to the application, diluted only by the semesters that come after it. Which means the cheapest possible time to act is the first term nobody is worried about yet, and the most expensive is Grade 11.

Honors and AP are granted, not chosen
Most American schools here put Honors and AP classes behind a minimum grade in the prior course plus a teacher recommendation, and they decide it in the spring for the following year. So the grade that determines whether AP Calculus is even on the table is earned months before anyone fills in a form. Parents usually discover this in April, when the answer is already fixed. We would rather work on it in November.

In Dubai the route is decided by the school, not by the student
The city has American schools that run the US pathway only, and others that offer the IB Diploma alongside it. That difference is settled when you choose the school, years before your child would choose anything. It changes what Grade 9 is preparing for, so we ask which building your child is in before we plan a single lesson, and we say plainly when the answer changes our advice.

Kindergarten to Grade 8, where no grade is permanent yet
Nothing in these years reaches a transcript. That is the good news and the trap: a child can move from Kindergarten to Grade 8 in a strong Dubai school with a soft spot in fractions or in written argument, and nothing on paper will ever say so. In Grade 9 the same soft spot starts producing marks that are permanent. Working on it while it still costs nothing is the whole argument for tutoring this stage.

How much does an American curriculum tutor cost in Dubai?
The rate follows the grade, not the course. Elementary is AED 140 an hour, middle school AED 160, and high school AED 180, all on the Commitment rate; Flexible is AED 20 more. VAT at 5% is included and a lesson at your home adds AED 30. The full breakdown is on one page.

My child got a C last semester. Can that be fixed?
Not erased, in most cases. That is the part families find hardest about this system: a semester grade is written into the transcript and the cumulative GPA carries it forward for four years. Some schools run credit recovery, most do not for a passing grade. What can be changed is everything after it, and the earlier that starts the more of the average is still unwritten.

How does a child get into an Honors or AP class?
Usually by permission rather than by choice. Most American schools here gate Honors and AP behind a minimum grade in the prior course and a teacher recommendation, and those decisions are made in the spring for the following year. So the grade that determines whether AP Chemistry is even available is being earned months before anyone applies for it. Families almost always find this out too late.

Do you teach the elementary and middle grades?
Yes, from Kindergarten. Those grades carry no external exam and no GPA, which is exactly why a gap in them travels quietly until Grade 9, when it starts costing points that stay on the record. The Years 1 to 9 page covers that stage on its own.

Does this work alongside SAT preparation?
Yes, and for most Dubai families it has to, because the two run at the same time in Grade 11. They are different jobs: the GPA is four years of coursework, the SAT is one adaptive test. We keep them on separate tracks with the same mentor where the subject allows. SAT, Dubai.

Are lessons online or in person?
Either. A mentor comes to your home across Dubai for AED 30 more per lesson, and online reaches the rest of the UAE. Coursework support tends to work best in person and test practice online, so most families end up with both.
